2 years!.....

by The Squirrell 2. January 2011 10:20

Celebrated my 2 year transplant anniversary today!

HUGE thanks to my donor, and to the team at QEH for making

this momentous celebration possible. Also the love and support

of loved ones and friends. (To you all, I send my love! X)

In "Typical Matt" style, I found a novel way to eat, and to

celebrate this occasion!

Top Day annoying the neighbours!....

by The Squirrell 31. December 2010 13:05

A huge Thanks to my friend George ( & friends) for setting

up a clay pigeon shoot today, to celebrate New Years Eve.

(And amusing me with thier efforts to get a 4WD Quad to

wheelie, by sitting on the back, then accelerating!!)

We all had a top day in the fresh air, returning some clay to

whence it came! (& Annoying the neighbours no doubt, with the

bangs?!)

;-)

My new internal friend powered me up and down the fields all day

effortlessly (If only the legs were in better shape?!)

We welcomed 2011 with a BANG (Or 200?!)

Done it!.......

by The Squirrell 30. December 2010 02:21

As you may know from my previous postings I

recentley had the "Typical Matt" idea to build an

Enduro/Motocross bike, then road register it for fun!!....

In a conversation earlier in the year with my friend Lewis,

I told him (Bravely!) ......

"I WILL finish it by the end of the year!...."

DONE IT!....

My wonderful new heart, kept me warm on the long nights

in the garage, and kept my energy coming (In times when

I could have just set it alight, and drank Brandy by the warmth

of its blaze!!...)

The pictures tell its tale!.....

Could it be....

Are we in for a white Xmas?

Judging by the view in my back garden this morning

I am will to bet on it!....

Father Christmas?.....

by The Squirrell 15. December 2010 06:04

My (limited) understanding of Father Christmas / Santas is;

1) He is a jolly fellow.

2) He has Grey or White hair.

3) He has a Grey or White beard/furry chin.

4) He is a rotund/larger size.

5) Wears Red and White attire.

6) Sneaks around your house eating and drinking what's left out for him.

I am slightly confused, as he is NOT how I pictured him?!.......

NEC Classic show....

by The Squirrell 13. November 2010 13:39

The boys and I went ot the NEC today, for the Classic car and bike show!

(Thanks to JC, Toadstool, Gouldy, The Westbury Grabber, for a great day!)

We drooled all day, and spent to much on things that "Will one day will be useful"

(Reads: "Never get used, and sold on ebay in 2 years time"!!)

I walked all the halls, without a break and my ticker did very well

(Better than my poor legs!)

Here's a snippet of the cars/Bikes on display....

Flu?...And feeling poo!

by The Squirrell 3. November 2010 16:32

What a bug!

I have been in bed for almost 3 days, with raging temperature,

sickness, aches, pains, headache, earache, sore throat, cough,

chest infection (On anti biotics though now!)

When these bugs get in, with low immunity, us Transplant patients

get hit harder and faster than normal it appears?

But I had my flu jabs, and some bed rest seems to be shifting it.

QEH, were on hand and helpful to help me and the GP choose an

antibiotic which was compatable with my current pills! (Big Thanks Brian!)

Lets hope the squirrel is back, scampering about soon?! (Sniff, cough!)

About Matt.

My name's Matt. I was born with a congenital heart defect which hampered me in my youth, and sadly became a terminal conditon recently, and beyond the (amazing) care of the BRI-Bristol Heart team.

In 2008, my condition deteriorated, to a point I was happy to see Xmas 2008. I had prepared to die.

Then in January 2009, a late night phone call from QEH-Hospital Birmingham changed my world, when they offered me a heart transplant, if I could get there pronto!!

6 months on, after a rocky start, I am still alive, thanks to them!

Read on to see how my new life is taking shape, and my adventures to date!....

Matt.
