Llandow.....

by The Squirrell 27. April 2009 08:22

Took my friend Rob to Llandow circuit in Wales so

he could "Hone his skills" behind the wheel of his

sports car....

(Turns out not much "honing" required!) He did REALLY

well, and took instruction well. He learnt the track quite

quickly, and remained calm and collected even when things

went a bit "Pete Tong"! Calm nerves, and a steady hand

are required to go fast, and he has both! (He'd make a good

heart Surgeon?!)    ;-)

John at Llandow was his usual accomodating, and co-operative self,

and always makes us feel welcome. I enjoy the atmosphere there and once

the poor Mazda has recovered I think Rob will be back?!   :-)

My new heart performed well, although I did over do it a bit, and my ribs

hurt for several days, after I took my racing car out for a few sneaky laps to!

I am still STUNNED at how good I feel overall, and get a bit "emotional"

when I look back, andthink I would not be writing this if it wasn't for an

overwhelming bit of forethought that my donor had when he signed up and

carried his card....Thank you whoever you are?....  :-)

About Matt.

My name's Matt. I was born with a congenital heart defect which hampered me in my youth, and sadly became a terminal conditon recently, and beyond the (amazing) care of the BRI-Bristol Heart team.

In 2008, my condition deteriorated, to a point I was happy to see Xmas 2008. I had prepared to die.

Then in January 2009, a late night phone call from QEH-Hospital Birmingham changed my world, when they offered me a heart transplant, if I could get there pronto!!

6 months on, after a rocky start, I am still alive, thanks to them!

Read on to see how my new life is taking shape, and my adventures to date!....
