Macy and the beach.....

by The Squirrell 30. April 2011 05:07

I went to see my old friend and partner in mischeif Adam !

(& Family obvioiusly!)

It was lovely to "The Fords" and spend some time in Devon again

with them all. The newest addition to the clan "Macy" LOVES her runs

on the beach, so Adam, Viv, India and I, walked all along the seafront

with her.

Adam and I both had our trustee "Tennis Ball Lobbers" and gave her

(and ourselves!) a good work out!

Macy had to be taught (See 2nd pic!) that the ball HAS TO EXIT the lobber

before you can grab it! So after a few bitten fingers she dashed about for

hours.

May 1st is the cut off for dogs on the beaches, due to tourism etc, so

she had an extra big run. We also got to see the anual Motorbike meet

that parks on the front and parties on the green! We all got soaked, cold

BUT HAPPY!!

Heart was no problem and propelled me for miles with ease!

Whilst doing some DIY I had an apprentice!

(Whose company has been extended since my operation!)

HOWEVER....The apprentice was NOT a great help, so i had to

utter Sir Alans famous phrase.....

"YOU'RE FIRED !......"       :-)

Badders!....

by The Squirrell 22. April 2011 13:04

Last night I made a snap decision to go to Badminton Horse trials!!

I asked Dad if he would drop me up, to save me the (outrageous!) £11.00

car park fee!

Gates opened at 8am, so at approx 8.15, we arrived. Dad then also

made a snap decision, and said "Sod it...I will come to!..." so we had a

lovely day in the sun (With sun cream on - Don't worry QEH!) looking

at all the amazing stands, selling beautiful clothes, paintings, art,

machinery, horsey things, and general "country fair"!

I walked MILES, and although the legs ached, the feet complained,

the HEART didn't even flutter!!      What a lucky boy!!

(Oh and I saw a horse or 2 as well !!)

An Inspiration !.......

by The Squirrell 9. April 2011 00:16

After my transplant I try to make the best of each day, but do admit

some days I struggle, against the lethergy, sickness, aches, and general

feeling poo that the drugs bring on...

BUT.... I have an inspirational Nan!

I adore her, and am stunned at her determination, good humour, feisty

spirit, wisdom, and skills!!

She is now 90+, and fought breast cancer at 82, collapsed lungs, and DVT

at 83, has arthritis, bad lung function, oestoperosis, etc etc.

To keep her mobile I bought her a car some years ago, which see adores!

However, someone dented it in a car park and broke her heart! So over the

last few days......

SHE FILLED THE DENT, HAND SANDED IT, RESPRAYED THE WING, POLISHED IT OUT, AND BUFFED THE CAR!!

WOW!....

Here's to "My Nanna"! May we all possess just a TENTH of her spirit to help us

through life?!!

Dyrham House Photo shoot!....

by The Squirrell 5. April 2011 14:14

On October 2nd 2011, we are running a speed Hiil Climb

at the beautiful Dyrham House ! (Up the driveway!)

(I agree, do the National Trust know what they've let themselves in for?!)

We went over today to take some "press shots" for our advertisng, and

for the Trusts pamphlets etc, so we had to empty the toy box, and

spend yesterday polishing and washing!!!

I fell head first out of one of the racers, and have a bruise like an

orange on my leg! (Luckily, whilst photographer was reloading!!)

Hit my willy on the gearstick to, but to scared to look for damage yet!!

Heart played ball all day, although I am exhausted now!!

:-)

Dyrham.....

Further to my previous post....

THIS would not have been possible without:

1) A Heart Transplant!

2) Some rather understanding, and slightly loopy National Trust managers!!

(What a thrill, and a great buzz!!)

About Matt.

My name's Matt. I was born with a congenital heart defect which hampered me in my youth, and sadly became a terminal conditon recently, and beyond the (amazing) care of the BRI-Bristol Heart team.

In 2008, my condition deteriorated, to a point I was happy to see Xmas 2008. I had prepared to die.

Then in January 2009, a late night phone call from QEH-Hospital Birmingham changed my world, when they offered me a heart transplant, if I could get there pronto!!

6 months on, after a rocky start, I am still alive, thanks to them!

Read on to see how my new life is taking shape, and my adventures to date!....
