Professor Bonser....

by The Squirrell 29. October 2012 20:52

Today mourns the loss of a truly great man.

Proffesor Bonser (with help) started cardiac surgery at

QEH and lead the way into transplantation. Proffesionally

he gained world wide respect in his field and pioneered significant

advancement both at QEH and in the science of organ transplants.

As a man I always found him gentley spoken, with a wry smile

and dry wit. We spoke many times, at first during my time in QEH

after my transplant and then on during my (numerous!) visits to

clinic/the hospital.

The team as a whole, and also the transplant "family" are all

devastated by his passing and will mourn and miss a lovely man who

bought salvation, life, and health to so many over his career.

Goodbye "Proff' " we will all miss you very much....

Did you see those claws!....

by The Squirrell 11. October 2012 21:53

Had an interesting and enjoyable day today...

Watching and using some of natures BEST predators!

I am country boy at heart and LOVE being outside interacting with

Nature and all its creatures (Assuming the teeth and claws are

smaller than mine?!!)

I had an enjoyable, if not frustrating (Have you tried to get a well

fed Bird of prey out of hedge and back to your hand?!) few hours walking

and chatting (And secretly hoping no rabbits pop out to their demise!)

Even if you do not approve of such hobbies the magnificence of the

birds has to be acknowledged?!....

About Matt.

My name's Matt. I was born with a congenital heart defect which hampered me in my youth, and sadly became a terminal conditon recently, and beyond the (amazing) care of the BRI-Bristol Heart team.

In 2008, my condition deteriorated, to a point I was happy to see Xmas 2008. I had prepared to die.

Then in January 2009, a late night phone call from QEH-Hospital Birmingham changed my world, when they offered me a heart transplant, if I could get there pronto!!

6 months on, after a rocky start, I am still alive, thanks to them!

Read on to see how my new life is taking shape, and my adventures to date!....
