Samuels Jeep !

by The Squirrell 5. March 2013 22:26

I asked my (fantastic!) Dad if he could, and would like to,

build Samuel a Pedal Car or such, form his "Grampy" so he

can enjoy it, and maybe pass it onto his kids?

Dad elaborated on this idea, and said "Typical Rumney style" can

we upgrade this idea and make it electric?

We thought long and hard and decided that if you can get a 12V

plastic car in ToysRus, then why not? (Dad was thinking BIG at this

point though so we set on the idea of "altering" a broken Mobility

scooter etc?

He said "Leave it to me, I have some odds and ends I can use

and I will make him something!..."

The below photo "Build Diary" speaks volumes!

(I love my talented and wonderful Dad!!)

Sunny Day in the garden!...

by The Squirrell 5. March 2013 21:09

The first of hopefully SOME sunny days in 2013 was a great excuse for

Samuel and I to take to the garden. he is not long ONE, so I am keen for him

to get outside and play in the mud, splash water, and enjoy nature!

He has been anxious about the outside since he fell in the snow, but today

put on his "Big Boy Pants" and sucked up his courage!.....We had a lovely day finding

empty snail shells and collecting them up, splashing in some warm water

I put in a bowl, eating an ice lolly as part of our "Picnic" and just enjoying each

others company.

He has been a delight ALL day. I may feel poorly, but his light and love made it

all go away for a day....

Thank you my beloved boy ! X

Bad news~?...

by The Squirrell 27. February 2013 13:45

Went back to QEH on 26th Feb for my rescheduled operations/investigations.

Feeling VERY low at the moment. Apart from all the bruises and sore parts

etc, the news about my shortness of breath was NOT what I wanted to hear.

Apparently all is not good with the heart. The in and out pressures are

not equal, showing the heart is under compression and struggling etc.

Also there is "furring up" of my main arteries. This has come as a huge blow

to me as I had hoped the heart was doing okay, and this was a fluid related

"glitch".... It sounds more serious to me...

Not sure where this is going.....

Very sad.....

Well I am home !

Sadly (for me) the operation/s got cancelled. (Good news for the

emergency that needed the theatre though, so all good!)

QEH to rebook me... Watch this space!

In QEH....

by The Squirrell 1. February 2013 19:49

Bit of a worry...

Went in for a routine appointment and have been admitted.!

Very axious. I have ben short of breath, listless, lethargic etc

and turns out I have fluid around my heart. QEH have been

as effective as ever and jumped straight on the problem.

I am in for op/s tomorrow so watch this space!

(And wish me luck please!!)

4 years today...

by The Squirrell 2. January 2013 00:15

Just been to QEH for my 4 year "MOT".

Can't believe it's been 4 years TO THE DAY that I had my Transplant.

Mixed feelings.......

Happiness that I am still here and enjoying my life, loves, and

family etc, but also sad that my "Transplant Buddy" did not get this far (RIP Matt Lammas.)

Sadness that Professor Bonser is no longer with us to see this day but most of all overwhelming

sadness for my Donors family and friends who will have a day of grief.

QEH have "concerns" as I appear to have fluid gathering around my heart which is

never good, but they have FOUND it and are monitioring it, so back in a few weeks

for a check up and see what happens then?

Thank you all for your love and ongoing support in my post transplant life, and for

your interest in my blog!

Xmas 2012....

by The Squirrell 25. December 2012 22:29

Xmas 2012 went off without incident...

Oh No wait... Samuel headbutted the map chest and split his forehead!

BUT apart from that, we all had a great time!

Happy New Year Transplant followers!

Professor Bonser....

by The Squirrell 29. October 2012 20:52

Today mourns the loss of a truly great man.

Proffesor Bonser (with help) started cardiac surgery at

QEH and lead the way into transplantation. Proffesionally

he gained world wide respect in his field and pioneered significant

advancement both at QEH and in the science of organ transplants.

As a man I always found him gentley spoken, with a wry smile

and dry wit. We spoke many times, at first during my time in QEH

after my transplant and then on during my (numerous!) visits to

clinic/the hospital.

The team as a whole, and also the transplant "family" are all

devastated by his passing and will mourn and miss a lovely man who

bought salvation, life, and health to so many over his career.

Goodbye "Proff' " we will all miss you very much....

About Matt.

My name's Matt. I was born with a congenital heart defect which hampered me in my youth, and sadly became a terminal conditon recently, and beyond the (amazing) care of the BRI-Bristol Heart team.

In 2008, my condition deteriorated, to a point I was happy to see Xmas 2008. I had prepared to die.

Then in January 2009, a late night phone call from QEH-Hospital Birmingham changed my world, when they offered me a heart transplant, if I could get there pronto!!

6 months on, after a rocky start, I am still alive, thanks to them!

Read on to see how my new life is taking shape, and my adventures to date!....
